HUD Announces $63,000 Settlement in Housing Discrimination Case
HUD charged the Mississippi Regional Housing Authority, No. VIII (MRHA), of Gulfport, Sun Belt Management Company, Inc., and Oakridge Park Apartments, Ltd., in Biloxi, with denying a disabled resident an available first-floor apartment, in violation of the federal Fair Housing Act. Obama to Redirect TARP on Housing
The focus of the Treasury Department's $700 billion Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) could soon shift from recapitalizing banks to helping troubled homeowners avoid foreclosure and stimulating demand for housing. President Barack Obama has requested access to the remaining $350 billion of the $700 billion financial industry bailout package so he would have "ammunition" if the U.S. financial system deteriorates further. NMHC Survey – Job Losses, Credit Market Conditions Challenge the Apartment Sector
The latest Quarterly Survey of Apartment Market Conditions (conducted January 5-12, 2009) from the National Multi Housing Council has just been released. Responses from 113 CEOs and other senior executives of apartment-related firms nationwide who serve on NMHC’s Board of Directors or Advisory Committee were compiled for the survey. Although the demand for apartments is in a down cycle, it’s believed that long-term prospects for the sector are strong, due to the increasing number of people between 20-34 years of age who will be entering the rental market.
